Typography - Topography
Done with Palomar
Team: Giulio Iacchetti

Brief: Typography-Topography is a product design project developed during Palomar Labs, a workshop led by Giulio Iacchetti. The challenge was to create a small, low-fi object bridging digital and primitive, while staying true to Palomar’s nomadic and travel-oriented identity.
Concept: Inspired by urban biking, travel, and souvenirs, the project explores the intersection of topography and typography. Road signs share universal elements, yet each city has its own distinct graphic language. This idea led to a collection of reflective trouser straps for bikers, preventing pants from getting caught in the chain while doubling as a bracelet and souvenir.
Development: Using slap-on technology, the design repurposes the silicone tail of Palomar’s Monkey Radio, simplifying production. The graphics, derived from street sign typography, are screen-printed with reflective ink. A selection of 13 cities, based on cultural relevance and Palomar’s catalog, ensures a cohesive, visually striking collection.
